Titanium Software has released the final version of OnyX 2.1, following five beta releases. OnyX is a general-purpose utility that enables users to optimize how OS X works, as well as to manage some of the processes behind most applications. OnyX can manipulate everything from the Finder, Dock, Dashboard, Expose, and Safari to the Login window, and the hidden settings of some of Apple's own applications. The software must be run from an admin account.

Released on the 26th of October 2009, OnyX 2.1 Beta 5 delivered modifications primarily related to compatibility with Snow Leopard, according to Titanium Software, the maker of the utility. The developer also revealed that the app would no longer be installed from a .pkg file, but rather via drag and drop into the Applications folder, like most Mac apps today. Additionally, users can now access the main menu to uninstall OnyX.

The Universal Binary app also allows users to delete caches and remove a certain number of files and folders that may become cumbersome, acting as a cleaning utility as well. There's also the option to see detailed info of one's configuration and to save a Desktop before modifying and relaunching the Finder.

The app also lets you modify its appearance – window transparency, the icon, the toolbar icons, and more. Working with all PowerPC and Intel computers running Mac OS X version 10.5 (Leopard), the Snow Leopard-compatible version is now available for immediate download using the link below. Versions supported by Mac OS X 10.4 (OnyX for Tiger), Mac OS X 10.3 (OnyX for Panther) and Mac OS X 10.2 (OnyX for Jaguar) are also available.

NOTE OnyX must be run from an admin account, in order to run correctly. It is very important to back up your data before using OnyX. If your computer freezes, don't worry, OnyX cannot destroy the System. If your computer freezes during the verification of the volume, it is a completely normal behavior! Once OnyX is finished checking, control will be returned to you.
