OnyX, the multifunction Mac OS X utility for maintenance, optimization, and personalization, has been updated to version 2.1.5 final. Multiple improvements are noted by Titanium’s Software, the makers of OnyX, including improved cleaning tools, the ability to choose the panel to open automatically at launch, and miscellaneous minor modifications.

A typical system maintenance tool, OnyX features diagnostic tools which allow users to delete caches and remove a certain number of files and folders that may become cumbersome, acting as a powerful cleaning utility. The software allows users to see detailed configuration information, and offers the ability to save a Desktop before modifying and relaunching the Finder.

OnyX boasts a customizable appearance, with options including window transparency, modification of the icon, the toolbar icons, and more. It works with all PowerPC and Intel computers running Mac OS X version 10.5 (Leopard), or Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard (Intel only). Versions supported by Mac OS X 10.4 (OnyX for Tiger), Mac OS X 10.3 (OnyX for Panther) and Mac OS X 10.2 (OnyX for Jaguar) are also available. The changes included in OnyX 2.1.5 Final are listed below:

· Show/hide the alert message at first launch of downloaded applications · Displaying the Maintenance Scripts Logs · Deleting temporary items improved · Deleting Mobile Devices CrashReporter · Deleting Internet Cache improved · Deleting User Cache improved · Choose the panel to open automatically at launch · Utilities > Find panel improved · Verify > Preferences panel improved · Misc Minor modifications · Deleting some localizations

NOTE

OnyX must be run from an admin account, in order to run correctly. It is very important to back up your data before using OnyX. If your computer freezes, don't worry, OnyX cannot destroy the System. If your computer freezes during the verification of the volume, it is a completely normal behavior, according to Titanium’s Software. Once OnyX is finished checking, control will be returned to you.
