Microsoft is offering the latest iteration of the Office productivity suite for Apple computers for download to the members of its developer and IT professional communities.

Subscribers to MSDN and TechNet are now able to download Office for Mac 2011 at no extra cost.

Both MSDN and TechNet feature Office for Mac Home and Business 2011 (Mac) - DVD (English) under each website’s subscriber download section.

Office for Mac Home and Business 2011 can be considered the high end edition of Office 2010’s equivalent for Mac machines.

However, the only difference in terms of components is that Office for Mac Home and Business 2011 also features Outlook 2011 on top of Word 2011, Excel 2011 and PowerPoint 2011, which are also sported by Office for Mac Home and Student 2011.

While free copies of Office 2010 are offered for download to customers running Windows which can test the release before deciding on a purchase, the same is not valid for Office for Mac 2011.

There are no trial editions of Office 2011 available for download so that Mac users can get a feeling of how the latest version of the productivity suite has evolved.

However, MSDN and TechNet subscribers can download Office for Mac Home and Business 2011 RTM immediately and start using it with no restrictions.

Eric Wilfrid, General Manager, Office for Mac highlighted some of the best aspects of Office 2011’s evolution:

“Access Your Office Anywhere: Office 2011 has new built-in integration to existing Microsoft cloud-based applications – the free Windows Live SkyDrive, Microsoft SharePoint, and Microsoft Office Web Apps – giving users more flexibility and control to work when and where they want.

“Teamwork at the Office or Across the World: The new co-authoring tools let users edit the same Word document or PowerPoint presentation simultaneously with other people in different locations who are using Office on a PC or a Mac.

A Professional Touch: The suite also provides new and improved tools that make it easier than ever to create a professional-looking document.”
