Microsoft has made available for download the first Beta development milestone for Office 2010 Service Pack 1 (SP1) Beta Build 14.0.6011.1000.
Less than a month ago, in the second half of October 2010, early adopters that had previously involved in the testing process of Office 2010 started receiving
invitations to participate in the Beta for the first major upgrade of the latest versions of the software giant’s productivity suite.
Well, the Office 2010 SP1 Beta bits are now available for testers, with downloads live through Microsoft Connect.
In concert with Office 2010 SP1 Beta, the SharePoint 2010 Service Pack 1 Beta Program also went live, with testers being invited to take both releases out for a spin.
This is a private Beta, Microsoft underlines, and only the testers that have received an invitation and were subsequently accepted in the Beta program are allowed access to the SP1 bits from Microsoft Connect.
At this point in time, the Redmond company is not yet ready to share details on Office 2010 SP1, and most probably won’t be for quite some time.
As it was the case with previous Office upgrades, customers can expect a range of updates to the productivity suite.
Microsoft is bound to work on improving reliability, compatibility and security, but there’s no telling whether there are new features in Office 2010 SP1.
For the time being, Microsoft Connect offers for download the English and Japanese versions of Office 2010 SP1 Beta. No word from the software giant whether additional languages will be added in the future.
Also, Microsoft did not specify whether end users will get access to any of the development milestones of Office 2010 SP1, including the Beta and the Release Candidate (RC).
Office 2010 was released commercially in mid-2010 and has already sold in excess of
6 million units worldwide.
