In addition to the second service pack for Office 2007, Microsoft has also made available for download Service Pack 2 for Office 2007 Servers and for Windows SharePoint Services. With SP2, the Redmond company catalyzes the next stage in the evolution of the Office 2007 servers, including Office SharePoint Server, Office Project Server, Office Forms Server, Search Server 2008, Search Server 2008 Express, and Office Groove Server 2007, 64-Bit Edition. In addition, both the 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 have been kicked up a notch with SP2.

“We're pleased to announce the release of all languages for Service Pack 2 for the 2007 Microsoft Office System, the 2007 Microsoft Office servers, and Windows SharePoint Services 3.0. As promised, this post contains a list of the products that are patched by SP2 with their corresponding knowledge base articles, information on how to obtain the packages, and links to additional SP2 resources. We hope you'll find this to be one of the best service packs produced by the Office team ever,” revealed a representative of the Office Sustained Engineering Team.

Taking into consideration all of the components packaged under the Office 2007 brand umbrella, Microsoft did in fact release no less than 24 different versions of the Service Pack 2 bits. The Redmond company recommends that users grab Office 2007 SP2 via Windows Update. However, in parallel with Microsoft Update, the software giant is also providing SP2 downloads via the Download Center. Users can of course grab the bits and manually install Office 2007 SP2 and not use Windows Update, even though via WU the package gets tailored to the specific installation and language of each computer.

“The beta was invaluable in helping us produce this service pack. Betas give us a chance to test our engineering work with real customers to ensure we’re hitting the mark. This was the largest beta we’ve done to date for an Office service pack, with thousands of beta testers from over 60 countries spanning a variety of company sizes. So the beta gave us a unique opportunity to ensure that our changes address real customer needs, especially for key products like Outlook. Our beta testers also provided us with some excellent feedback that resulted in real improvements to the service pack code and documentation,” revealed Jane Liles, group program manager, Office Sustained Engineering.
