Apple has released OS X version 10.9.1, the first incremental update to the company’s Mavericks operating system, featuring a truckload of bug fixes, a few tweaks to existing features, and general performance enhancements.

According to the official changelog, “The OS X Mavericks v10.9.1 Update is recommended for all OS X Mavericks users. It improves the stability, compatibility, and security of your Mac.”

The update includes Safari 7.0.1, a new version of Apple’s standard web browser.

Gmail users will notice improved behavior and reliability while using the standard OS X Mail client. Search and Smart Mailboxes are now working properly.

An issue that prevented contact groups from working properly in Mail is now addressed, and all VoiceOver bugs affecting sentences that contain emoji are now gone.

With OS X 10.9.1, iLife and iWork apps will update as expected. Apple is also addressing an issue that may cause multiple prompts to unlock “Local items” keychain, as well as a flaw that may cause Japanese keyboards to retain the language that was used previously.

An error preventing a Contact group name from populating the address field should be gone now.

Other fixes and improvements (from the release notes) are listed below.

- Fixes an issue that could cause Safari to become unresponsive when filling out forms on fedex.com, stubhub.com, and other websites Improves Credit Card Autofill compatibility with websites. - Improves VoiceOver compatibility with facebook.com. - Updates Shared Links periodically when open in the Safari Sidebar.

Apple has released a separate build of the OS X 10.9.1 update for users of MacBook Pro with Retina Display (Late 2013). This update includes some of the fixes found in the general 10.9.1 release for all Macs.

Strangely, the company doesn’t include a link to the advisory listing the security issues fixed in 10.9.1, but the documentation is readily available on the its Support site.
