Apple has released an update to the third Developer Preview of OS X Mountain Lion. Build 12A193i is freely available to download via Software Update on machines already running Mountain Lion DP3.

An email has been sent to developers, notifying them that “OS X Mountain Lion introduces great features inspired by iPad, re–imagined for the Mac.”

“With the Developer Preview, you can explore Game Center, Notification Center, Documents in the Cloud, new sharing capabilities, advanced security features, and much more,” says Apple.

The Cupertino tech giant encourages developers to access Software Update on their test computers and check for any available updates. Xcode 4.4 DP4 is also available for download, Apple said.

“If you already have Mountain Lion Developer Preview 3 installed, choose Software Update from the Apple menu to download the update from the Mac App Store. Download Xcode 4.4 Developer Preview 4 from the Mac Dev Center to continue building apps for Mountain Lion Developer Preview 3 Update.”

For registered Apple developers who haven’t yet installed Mountain Lion Developer Preview 3, the Mac Dev Center holds redemption codes usable in the Mac App Store. Apple explains:

“If you haven’t already installed Mountain Lion Developer Preview 3, get your redemption code from the Mac Dev Center. You can redeem this code to download Mountain Lion from the Mac App Store.”

The people at 9to5mac have already documented a change in the new build: the addition of a “do not disturb” setting to the Notification Center.

On the Mountain Lion marketing page, Apple explains that “Notification Center makes it easy to stay up to speed, because there’s one place to see everything. Notification banners appear on your desktop and disappear quickly so they don’t interrupt what you’re doing. Swipe to the left, and you’ll see all your notifications in a simple, ordered list. So you’ll always know what’s up as soon as it comes up.”

Notification Center is a feature borrowed from iOS. Other borrowed features include Reminders, Messages, and Game Center.
