An updated version of the latest Mountain Lion Developer Preview is now available for download to registered Apple developers. The new seed brings settings for Facebook in Notification Center and PowerNap, people familiar with the software said.

Weighing in at 1.08 GB and carrying build number 12A248, the updated OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion Developer Preview 4 introduces new options for Facebook aficionados, such as native banner notifications from Notification Center.

These include notifications for events, application requests, nearby friends, friend requests, comments, wall posts, messages, photo tags, friend confirmations, and place tags.

Apple has already confirmed that OS X would be more “Facebook-friendly” starting this summer.

“With built-in Facebook support, you can share what’s up with you right from the app you’re in. Post photos or links. Add comments and locations. Just sign in once, and you’re all set up,” according to the marketing page for Mountain Lion.

“OS X adds your Facebook friends and their profile photos to Contacts so you can find them fast. When friends update their information on Facebook, it’s automatically updated on your Mac,” Apple adds. “Your Facebook notifications show up in Notification Center. And you can even update your status right from there.”

As far as Power Nap is concerned, new settings are now available as well (as shown in the second screenshot down, courtesy of 9to5mac).

Power Nap is an all-new feature in OS X which “gets things done” when your Mac goes to sleep.

Supporting only SSD-equipped Macs (such as all the MacBook Airs from mid-2010 to date, as well as the new MacBook Pro with Retina display), Power Nap updates Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Reminders, Notes, Photo Stream, Find My Mac, and Documents in the Cloud, periodically.

It even downloads software updates and makes Time Machine backups whenever you let it go to sleep while connected to a power source.

Registered Apple Developers can download the updated DP4 build from the Mac App Store.
