The PlayStation 3 has just received a brand new mandatory system software update, taking it to version 4.55 and bringing improved stability fixes.

Sony launched a fresh system software update for the PS4 earlier this week, taking it to version 1.60, and now the PS3 has also received a new firmware release, in the form of update 4.55.

The new build improves system stability, but it's unclear in just what ways or what certain problems have been fixed by the new patch.

Either way, you can download PS3 firmware update 4.55 right now from Softpedia and apply it using a USB drive, or just get it via the PlayStation Network, provided your PS3 console is connected to the Internet and can download the new system software.

Expect to hear more details about the update soon enough.
