A brand new system software update for the Nintendo Wii U has just been released, taking its firmware up to version 5.2.0 and offering owners of the home console the ability to organize their games into folders, so that less of the home screen gets occupied by all the installed titles.

Nintendo launched the Wii U quite some time ago, but due to the new devices from Sony and Microsoft, in the form of the PS4 and Xbox One, respectively, the small console from Japan hasn't been doing so well in terms of sales.

Even so, Nintendo is certain that, with big releases like Bayonetta 2 or Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, the console can make a comeback.

A new software update brings a few fresh features

In order to offer new and existing owners of the console an even better experience, Nintendo has just launched a fresh Wii U system software update, which takes the device’s operating system to version 5.2.0, according to the official website.

The new firmware brings a few new features, including the long-awaited possibility to create folders in the Wii U menu that can be used to hold and organize software and game icons. This should come in handy to owners of the Deluxe Edition with 32GB of storage and who have plenty of installed games, either straight Wii U titles or those downloaded via the eShop or the Virtual Console services.

Besides a better option to manage the menu of the console, the new firmware update also adds another icon for download management to the actual interface, so that users can easily access it and see what new things are being downloaded by their device.

Changes to the Quick Start and Home menus are also included

The Quick Start menu has also been tweaked and will now appear when the Wii U is powered on from the Wii U Gamepad TV remote. Fresh options have been added to the Power Settings function that allow users to hide certain software from the Quick Start menu.

The Home interface has also been tweaked, with the design and layout being updated, although Nintendo has declined to say in just what way.

Last but not least, the eShop online store has also seen a small tweak, as players are no longer allowed to introduce unusable characters when redeeming Nintendo eShop cards.

Overall, once firmware update 5.2.0 is installed, owners of the Wii U should see further improvements to system stability, according to Nintendo, and other minor adjustments to enhance the user experience.
