A friendly reminder for racing game fans, as EA and Black Box have once again confirmed that the demo for their new title, Need for Speed: The Run, is out today for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms.

Need for Speed: The Run has certainly gotten a lot of people interested in it, seeing as how the title uses DICE's all-new Frostbite 2 engine, while also portraying on-foot sequences besides the regular car racing that all NFS fans know and love.

In order to properly highlight the title and the special kind of quality racing experience delivered by The Run, Electronic Arts, its publisher, and Black Box, its developer, are now deploying a free demo for the title onto consoles like the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360.

For North American PlayStation Network users and Xbox Live Gold subscribers, the demo is already available today, October 18. For European PSN users, the demo for The Run arrives tomorrow, October 19. Both are set to expire on November 1.

Two cars are available for The Run demo, the Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2 Valentino Balboni as standard, and the 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera S, which is unlocked after players refer to a friend to download the demo.

Two races are included, the Desert Hills and the Independence Pass ones, which have been detailed by EA's community manager, Coulter Mulligan, on the PlayStation blog.

"Desert Hills will have you jockeying for position through the sweeping Nevada highways, while Independence Pass presents an entirely different challenge. An avalanche bears down on your Lambo (or Porsche) as you dice it up against an Audi R8, avoiding falling boulders and the onslaught of snow that’s right on your rear bumper. At that point it’s not so much about winning as it is surviving!"

The special Autolog online feature is included in this demo for NFS: The Run, so players can track their performance and challenge friends to beat them.

The full version of Need for Speed: The Run is out on November 15, in North America, and November 18, in Europe, for the PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii and 3DS.
