Riot Games has just unleashed a brand new update for League of Legends, its massively popular multiplayer game, bringing a wide series of changes, such as nerfs to Ahri or Azir, while refraining from making the promised buffs to champions like Veigar and others.

League of Legends is one of the most popular free-to-play multiplayer online battle arena experiences out there, as tens of millions of fans join in on the fun every month from all over the world.

This massive popularity isn't stopping Riot Games from making sweeping changes to the its gameplay, however, as patch 5.2 removed one of the most important and controversial items in the game, in the form of Deathfire Grasp.

At that time, Riot made some buffs to champions that relied heavily on the item, and promised that update 5.3 would bring more such changes, including a new item to replace the controversial one.

Update 5.3 for League of Legends is now available for download

Now, patch 5.3 for League of Legends has just been released and Riot reveals on the official website that, unfortunately, it wasn't able to implement the promised changes, instead focusing on other, smaller things, while continuing to test solutions to the Deathfire Grasp conundrum.

More specifically, the promised buffs to champions like Veigar, Mordekaiser, and others aren't present, although Riot claims that it's examining each character affected by the removal of Deathfire Grasp on a case-by-case basis. These efforts have generated some interesting results, such as the case of Katarina, who's now deemed sufficiently powerful even without the item and won't get any buffs at least in the near future.

However, the studio emphasizes that another item to add 120 ability power points will be added to the game in the future, although it can't say for sure when exactly that might be.

The patch brings quite a few nerfs and plenty of tweaks

However, the patch does bring a series of nerfs, specifically to Azir, whose early-game viability has been drastically lowered in order to emphasize his late-game power. Ahri, Kassadin, or Gnar have also received some nerfs.

The new patch is now available for download straight from the game's launcher.
