Major changes coming to Ahri, Akali, or Tristana

League of Legends has just received a brand new patch from Riot Games, bringing forth some major changes mainly by eliminating the Deathfire Grasp item, while making adjustments to champions that made full use of the controversial gear, such as Ahri or Akali, while tweaking others, like Tristana.

League of Legends is one of the most popular multiplayer online battle arena experiences out there, as Riot Games' project has millions of fans around the world. The 2015 competitive season has just kicked off but this doesn't meant that Riot is done with big changes to the regular mechanics.

A new patch brings a major change for some champions

Quite the opposite, as the studio confirms on the official website that League of Legends patch 5.2 is now available and comes with a major change by removing the Deathfire Grasp item.

According to the developer, it's garnered a controversial position in the mind of the community and it's caused its balance team a lot of problems when they tried to tweak it or other items in its category.

"The short of it is that DFG has always been a tough item to balance around and, like Lich Bane, we finally realized if we wanted to have healthy mage assassins in the game, we needed to tackle the problem at its source. Ultimately we came to the decision to remove DFG completely but this also frees us up to give cool things for champions who've been shackled by their reliance on the item," the studio explains.

The patch makes other changes

As you can imagine, such a big decision has a big impact on the game, so the rest of the patch also ensures that the effects aren't that big, at least for now. Champions that relied on the item, such as Ahri or Akali, have been revamped, as well as their actual abilities.

You can expect more tweaks to affect champions like Veigar, Mordekaiser, or Katarina in patch 5.3, but it doesn't have a concrete release date just yet.

This major update also brings tweaks to the overhauled version of Tristana, which was already released by Riot some time ago and got tested on the Public Beta Environment.

The new update 5.2 for League of Legends is now available for download via the in-game launcher.
