Halo: Spartan Assault is now available for download worldwide on PCs and tablets powered by Windows 8, as well as on smartphones that are running the Windows Phone 8 operating system.

Microsoft's Halo franchise has largely been reserved for its consoles like the Xbox, Xbox 360, or the Xbox One, but the company is keen on bringing the experience to a new set of devices.

As such, Halo: Spartan Assault is now available for the PC and on tablets that are running the Windows 8 operating system, as well as Windows Phone 8-powered handsets.

The game, in case you forgot, is a top-down shooter in which players guide Commander Sarah Palmer, as well as Spartan Davis, through a series of adventures that detail the backstory of the war between the Humans and the Covenant.

The game is available for $6.99 (around €5.32) worldwide. In the U.S., however, the game's Windows Phone 8 version will be exclusive to Verizon handsets until August 16, according to the Xbox Wire.
