14 DAY TRIAL // Owners of Nokia Lumia devices can now download and install a brand new application on their handsets, aimed at providing them with more this season, namely Winter Ski & Ride for Windows Phone 8.
Launched exclusively for Nokia’s users, the new application has been endorsed by the official U.S. association of ski and snowboard instructors, and should easily prove a highly appealing winter sports app for Lumia owners.
The app is available in the Windows Phone Store as version 1.1.8.0 at the moment, set to deliver ski run analytics, snow reports for a wide range of resorts, resort maps and more, all on the screen of your Windows Phone 8-based Lumia.
Furthermore, the application comes with support for speech, while also being designed for those who would use it with gloves on in the cold.
“Winter Ski & Ride features everything from snow reports and safety tips to detailed info about your favorite ski resorts, which you can pin to the Start screen as Live Tiles for faster access (the app also makes great use of the lock screen),” Microsoft’s Michael Stroh explains.
“Another standout feature is the ability to create groups of ski buddies, then challenge yourself and them with goals like most number of runs.”
The app also sports a leaderboard, so that users would know who is at the top of the list. Not to mention that it will provide people with video lessons from top ski instructors.
It also provides activity tracking capabilities: “simply switch tracking on at the beginning of your ski day, and put the phone in your pocket. The app will automatically track your runs, speed, vertical, goals and achievements, and present it in beautiful charts,” Nokia explains.
Not to mention that there are social features for users to take advantage of, all through the WINTER social network, and that the app offers support for the lockscreen in Windows Phone 8.
