Today, a new application meant to offer users the possibility to connect their devices to a desktop computer emerged, namely Nokia Software Updater for Mac, coming out from the Nokia Beta Labs, and being aimed mainly at enabling users to easily update their handsets.

The new application is available only in a beta flavor at the moment, though it already offers support for a wide range of Nokia devices, with more of them expected to be added into the mix in the not too far future.

The development team behind the application notes that they still have a lot of work to do on this application, but that they would release more updates on it as feedback from users is received.

“This release candidate is still in the development phase, and the plan is to keep the trial ongoing until further notice,” the development team announced.

“We will release updates here based on the feedback we receive (critical improvements will be prioritized), but would also like to gather improvement ideas for future releases.”

Mac users who own a Nokia device and would like to try out the new application should keep in mind that not all Nokia phones are supported.

The list of handsets that can be updated with this app includes: 5630 XpressMusic, 5730 XpressMusic, 5800 XpressMusic, 6210 Navigator, 6700 slide, 6710 Navigator, 6720 Classic, 6730 Classic, C5, C6, E55, E72, N78, N79, N97, N97 mini, X5, and X6.

We should note that the newer Nokia C7 and Nokia N8, which run under the Symbian^3 operating system, are supported as well.

“This release candidate supports only device software updates. Support for application updates will be released later,” the guys over at Nokia Beta Labs note.

“This beta release of the Nokia Software Updater for Mac will not install any pre-release of Nokia device software. If after installing you get a message 'No software updates available', this means there is no new version of Nokia device software currently available for your specific product.

Nokia Software Updater for Mac is available for download from Softpedia too, via this link.
