Owners of a Symbian smartphone who are looking for an easy way in which they could manage their news feeds startight from their handsets have now the possibility to do so through an application released from Nokia themselves, the Nokia Reader.

Only a beta version for the time being, the new Nokia Reader was made available for download via the Nokia Beta Labs, and can be used on all handsets running under the Symbian^3 or S60 5th Edition operating systems.

“Looking for a simple and easy to use RSS reader to manage news feeds on your Symbian^3 or S60 5th Edition device? Reader pushes your favorite news feeds to your homescreen allowing you to quickly catch up on current events,” the app is described on Nokia beta Labs.

Those interested in trying out the software should know that it is easy to set up, as well as to use.

“This useful application is easy to setup: Just select your favorite feeds from a pre-populated list of the major news sources or add a new feed by typing the website address and Reader will search for the RSS feed,” the said entry continues.

One of the most important feature of the new app is the fact that it includes push notifications, which means that it would consume only a small amount of battery juice.

The features list of the app also includes Content directory, Homescreen widget, and support for Nokia Accounts.

The new Nokia Reader application is compatible with devices running under S60 5th Edition (but not Nokia 5800 XpressMusic) and Symbian^3.

The development team says that the new software was tested on handsets like Nokia N97, Nokia N97 Mini, Nokia X6, Nokia N8 and Nokia C7.

Nokia Reader is available for download from Softpedia as well, via this link. Just keep in mind that it is only a beta release, and that it might still be buggy. More info on it can be found in the video embedded below.
