The Sparkle framework should have already notified Transmission users of the latest update to the powerful BitTorrent client for Mac OS X. The 1.60 release, fresh out of beta, delivers over a dozen improvements, including UI changes, new functionalities, as well as the Bonjour support for the web interface.

Transmission 1.60 stable has moved Groups to Preferences. Groups can be auto-assigned now to transfers when adding based on multiple criteria. Groups can also have a default location when adding transfers now.

According to the same changelog, the speed limit scheduler can now be applied to only specific days, while an option to include beta releases when auto-updating (using modified Sparkle 1.5) has also been added. Lastly, the software boasts the Bonjour support for the web interface and Portuguese localization.

Transmission is a BitTorrent client much like Vuze, or uTorrent. The software is open source, while most of the code is licensed under the GNU General Public License with select code licensed under the liberal MIT License. The program boasts a simple, intuitive interface designed to integrate tightly with any OS. It runs natively on Mac OS X, seamlessly configuring your network, banning peers who send corrupted data intelligently, using protocol encryption and built-in Peer Exchange.

Everything is done in the background, so you needn't worry about manipulating settings. Whether you want to queue your torrents for a maximum performance or throttle their speed during peak periods, Transmission lets you do both. It also allows you to efficiently ration commodity, only slowing down your system when you actually focus on it.

Transmission is free to download and use on any machine running Mac OS X 10.4.11 or later and is a Universal Binary, meaning both Intel and PowerPC Macs are supported. Use the link below to grab the latest version of the software available.
