14 DAY TRIAL // Synium Software has issued a new release of its genealogy app for Mac OS X, MacFamily Tree 5.5 Beta 4. The update delivers a reduced number of changes, including several fixed bugs in the Palette Configuration and tweaks to the user interface. The iPhone companion is still available at version 1.3.2, last updated in July 2008.
"Based on more than a decade of experience, MacFamilyTree 5 may be regarded as the most advanced genealogy application for the Mac, and is fully compatible with GEDCOM for reliable exchange of genealogy information across OS boundaries," Synium Software says. MacFamilyTree helps users document, store, and display information about their family. They can draw and print family trees, lists, cards, heritage charts, descendant charts and genograms. Mac users can also include multiple partners and people in same relationships, while data is exported as HTML to build a web page, with many more export options being available. The GEDCOM 5.5 is the native file format.
Mac users interested in Synium Software's genealogy program will need to pack an ATI Radeon 7500, a GeForce 4 MX Graphics Card, or an Intel GMA 950 (or better). The app runs on Intel- or PPC-based machines under Mac OS X 10.4.8 or later. The iPhone client is a companion application for MacFamilyTree, which helps users gather genealogy data whenever they want. MobileFamilyTree allows them to view, add and edit information and synchronize everything with the MacFamilyTree database on their Macs. Everything is done over the air – no cables required. The iPhone sidekick requires a fully licensed installation of MacFamilyTree 5.2.3 or any newer version of the Mac genealogy application.
