CleanMyMac, the powerful cleaning utility for Mac OS X Tiger, Leopard and Snow Leopard, has received a new maintenance update from MacPaw. CleanMyMac can delete useless files that pile up over time and waste valuable disk space, as well as slow down the system.

“Due to space available after taking care of your machine with CleanMyMac, your Mac will work faster and smoother without devouring important system resources,” MacPaw states. “You will be able to simultaneously enjoy listening to online radio, working with image processing or graphics editing programs, downloading or uploading necessary documents, etc.,” a rough description of the benefits goes.

Unlike simpler “cleaning” solutions, CleanMyMac combines features such as the ability to slim down Universal Binaries, delete unneeded languages, logs and caches, Quick Erase, application uninstallation, and the ability to fully erase trash left from buried applications. As noted in our extensive review of the software, with CleanMyMac installed and run periodically, your computer will work faster and smoother. CleanMyMac requires a computer running Mac OS X 10.4.11 or later. The software is a Universal Binary, running natively on both PowerPC and Intel-based Macs.

The just-released CleanMyMac 1.7.4 adds new cache folders, allowing the software to search for Leopard and Snow Leopard specific caches. CleanMyMac will also remember what items you have unchecked on the next launch, thanks to this update. Other changes include new checks added to warn users if they are trying to remove some of their native languages, updated Sparkle preferences and launch daemon, and optimizations for faster scanning of Applications.

As far as bug fixes are concerned, CleanMyMac 1.7.4 fixes an issue where it launched to clean apps after updating them with AppFresh or MacUpdate. Other fixes have been made to resolve some localization errors, and other minor issues, according to MacPaw.
