Microsoft has made available for download a new release of the Windows Live client-side components designed for users of mobile phones running its Windows Mobile operating system. Windows Live for Windows phone (Pro) is currently up for grabs via the Microsoft Download Center at no charge. Users that will decide to make the jump to the most recent variant of Windows Live for Windows Phone will find that version 10.7.0061.0500 is the release that will enable them to do so.

“Now you can stay connected to those that matter most with Windows Live for Windows phone,” reads an excerpt from the description provided by Microsoft. “Windows Live Messenger, Hotmail, Photos and the “What’s New” feed are now all available on your 6.x Windows phone. Windows Live™ for Windows phone (Pro) is for use with a touch phone.”

In addition to the e-mail, instant messaging, contacts, what’s new feed, photos clients, Windows Live for Windows Phone also brings to the table people, profile and Bing Search. According to Microsoft, Windows Live for Windows Phone is designed to support the following platforms: Windows Mobile 6; Windows Mobile 6 Professional; Windows Mobile 6.1; Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional; Windows Mobile 6.5.

Microsoft is providing two files, WindowsLive.PPC2005_arm.cab and WindowsLive_0409.PPC2005_arm.cab, which can be downloaded to a PC and subsequently copied to the Windows phone and executed locally. “Alternatively you can browse to http://wl.windowsmobile.com using Internet Explorer on your device to install using direct download,” the company informed.

The difference in the two files lies in the mobile devices for which they are meant. Windows Live for Windows Phone (Pro) is designed to be integrated with Touch-capable phones, whereas Windows Live for Windows phone (Standard) will work with non-touch phones. Users can grab the Windows Live for Windows Phone release that is tailored to their mobile phone based on the devices users interaction model.
