14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has released Office 2008 for Mac 12.2.6, and Office 2004 for Mac 11.6.0. Both updates contain fixes for vulnerabilities that an attacker can use to overwrite the contents of a computer's memory with malicious code.
Over at Mactopia, Microsoft's web site dedicated to Mac-compatible products and updates, the company responsible for the Windows operating system reveals tha Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac 11.6.0 improves security.
Explaining what the update does exactly, Microsoft states: “It includes fixes for vulnerabilities that an attacker can use to overwrite the contents of your computer's memory with malicious code.”
According to the Windows maker, the update applies to Office 2004 Standard Edition, Office 2004 Student and Teacher Edition, Office 2004 Professional Edition, Word 2004, Excel 2004, PowerPoint 2004, Entourage 2004.
Released on August 10, 2010, the .dmg file size is 192MB.
For users of the 2008 edition, improvements to stability and compatibility are included as well, Microsoft said.
“This update contains improvements to stability and compatibility,” Microsoft notes, referring to Office 2008 for Mac version 12.2.6. The Redmond-based software giant also mentions the security fix available for both 2004 and 2008 editions of the suite.
In accordance with the listings over at Mactopia, this update applies to Office 2008, Office 2008 Home and Student Edition, Office 2008 Special Media Edition, Word 2008, Excel 2008, PowerPoint 2008, Entourage 2008, Office 2008 for Mac Business Edition.
Released in tandem with the update for Office 2004, the update for Office for Mac 2008 weighs in at 333MB.
Both updates are available in Deutsch, English, Español, Français, Italiano, Japanese, Nederlands, and Svenska.
Those who buy Office 2008 for Mac between August 1, 2010 and November 30, 2010 can get Office for Mac 2011 when it’s available, Microsoft also announced recently.
