Rob from Hobbyist Software is notifying VLC fans that a new VLC Streamer app is available for iOS devices. VLC Streamer lets you stream movies straight from your PC or Mac to your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. Rob also announced an update to his existing VLC Remote app for iOS customers.

With the new VLC Streamer, you can normally start watching within a few seconds of browsing and selecting a show, Rob says.

“It's a perfect way to watch your own movie on your own iDevice when you need a little time to yourself,” he explains.

“VLC Streamer uses the power of VLC to stream your movies to your device. You can watch anything from your movie collection. No need for complex conversion processes. No need to manually transfer movies to your device,” Rob promises.

There’s a free and a paid version of the app. Key features include:

- Supports Mac OS 10.5 and above - Supports Windows, XP, Vista, Windows 7 - Free helper app gets you streaming quickly - Browse local drives, and Windows network shares - Support for multiple resolutions and streaming quality levels - Live streaming of video after a few seconds of processing (assumes a reasonably powered computer) Download VLC Streamer ($0.99)

As for VLC Remote, the app lets you remotely control your VLC Media Player on your Mac or PC.

It has received several awards from high-profile tech blogs and publications.

Version 5.50, updated earlier this month, adds the ability to browse YouTube videos and play them on your computer, share what you are watching in Facebook, Twitter, etc., an indicator to show which item in playlist is playing, and fixes for the subtitles autoload problem and the problem with deleting skins.

However, Hobbyist Software points out that this version has a problem playing files with accent characters in their names (c://movié).

“If that's you, then please wait until the next update which should be out shortly!”, Rob notes.
