ScreenFlow is a professional screencasting studio for Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard and, with the release of version 2.0, for Snow Leopard too. The application was crowned Best Leopard App at WWDC '08. Version 2.0 is a $29.00 paid upgrade and will require a new 2.0 serial number.

Telestream’s ScreenFlow allows its users to capture everything they’re doing on screen through its powerful capture systems. With ScreenFlow's advanced timeline-based editing features, users can mix down their Screencast, using effects like 3D or 2D Zoom & Pan, Picture-in-Picture, Mouse Callouts, Reflection, Foreground Window Callouts, Drop Shadow, and much more. ScreenFlow can visualize the waveforms of any content with audio in one's presentation (including QuickTime-based media), making it easy to find peaks, remove coughs, pauses and other slip-ups.

With that out of the way, let’s see some highlights from the “what’s new in ScreenFlow 2.0” posted over at telestream.net.

According to the developers of ScreenFlow, version 2.0 adds support for beautiful 2D and 3D video transitions across clips. “As you push your clips together, transitions are created automatically, making it easier than ever to create stunning screencasts,” Telestream explains. The YouTube Export feature allows for direct export to YouTube from within ScreenFlow.

The updated software also allows users to adjust the speed of their clip or freeze a single frame. Version 2.0 adds the ability to individually adjust the speed of one's clips as well. According to Telestream, if users need a segment to last a little longer, or they want to demonstrate a time-lapse of their screen recording, they'll find the new, high-quality video & audio speed adjustments a powerful addition to their toolbox.

One can even export part of the timeline with version 2.0 of ScreenFlow. They just have to choose to only export a part of the timeline (not the entire document), Telestream instructs users. Other enhancements that further facilitate their screencasting include Color Correction (the ability to adjust saturation, brightness and contrast), and Live Audio Scrubbing (the ability to scrub the timeline with the audio). The release notes also reveal that ScreenFlow 2.0 is now optimized for Apple’s latest Mac OS X version – 10.6, Snow Leopard.

ScreenFlow requirements include Mac OS X Leopard 10.5 or later, a G4 or Intel-based CPU (Core 2 Duo recommended), a Quartz Extreme capable graphics card and a supported programmable GPU required for certain effects & functionality. While the application is indeed supported on both PPC and Intel architectures, files created on one architecture cannot be opened on the other.
