Opera Software has quietly updated its feature-packed, cross-platform web browser, recommending the download to every user out there. In addition to powerful features for every kind of user, the Opera web browser now sports “Opera Unite,” a powerful platform that turns one's Web browser into a Web Server too.

“Opera 10.01 is a recommended security and stability upgrade,” the changelog over at Opera Software’s site reads. “Opera highly recommends all users to upgrade to Opera 10.01 to take advantage of these improvements,” the company adds.

With Opera’s powerful, new Unite feature, users can share content directly with friends without having to upload anything to a Web site. Activities like streaming music, showing photo galleries, sharing files and folders or hosting Web pages take a few simple clicks, according to the company.

Over the first month following the release of Opera 10 on September 1, 2009, Opera Software revealed that approximately three million unique users amped up their browsing speeds with Opera Turbo, another key feature that makes Opera unique.

Opera Turbo is a compression technology available in both Opera 10 and Opera Mobile, which reduces the size of Web pages up to 80%, giving users a dramatic boost in browsing speed over slow connections.

According to the company, “[The] recorded high usage rate of one particular browser feature underscores that Opera’s turbo-charged technology addresses a distinct need of the Internet-using public [...] By compressing the Web pages before they are sent to the device, less data is transferred, saving money.”

So, what do these statistics really mean? Well, according to Jon von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera Software, “The numbers tell us that Opera Turbo solves critical bandwidth issues. People everywhere experience either slow, congested networks or must pay as they go for Web access. It is an issue that affects everyone, from the business traveler to the Internet café user. Opera Turbo has become universally useful.”
