Download New Opera 10.0 Alpha Build 1413, Now with Turbo

The latest Opera 10.0 Alpha development milestone brings to the table various performance enhancements, including Turbo. A technology designed to boost the browser speed especially when dealing with slow Internet connections, Turbo is now an integral part of all Opera 10 Alpha snapshots. In addition, the Norwegian browser maker indicated that Build 1413 of Opera 10 Alpha brought to the table resolves for a variety of problems, including image download, Gmail issues, and unclickable links on some websites.

“Since the labs release, a number of improvements have been implemented. We introduced a new (experimental) Turbo setting: Automatic. If you enable this feature Opera will turn on Turbo when the network is slow. You can enable automatic mode in the Web Pages tab in the preference dialog. Opera will also show you a special notification when you are on a slow network and Turbo is not yet on,” revealed Huib Kleinhout, Opera Desktop Team manager.

Opera 10 Alpha Build 1413 offers end users a new spell checker. The browser maker explained that it had worked to enhance the user experience related to spell checking in the browser by integrating the hunspell library. According to Kleinhout, spelling suggestions and dictionary compatibility will be boosted with the adoption of the hunspell library. Kleinhout warned that upgrading to the latest development milestone of the browser can create some issues for users, specifically the loss of favicons and speeddial links.

“New file layout in installation and profile directories - traditionally the files installed by the Opera installer are named and layout differently per platform. For instance on Mac, preferences are stored in "Opera 9 Preferences" while on Unix and Windows this file is called "opera6.ini". In Opera 10 these differences will disappear. If you upgrade to this snapshot, the files will be renamed and moved to the new location,” Kleinhout added.
