The code-savvy folks at Telestream have updated their WMV Player to version 2.3.0.7 Beta. Flip4Mac WMV is a collection of QuickTime components that allow you to play, import and export Windows Media files and can be used with most of your favorite QuickTime applications including QuickTime Player, iMovie 6 and Final Cut Pro.

Flip4Mac WMV Player allows you to play Windows Media directly in your QuickTime Player. This eliminates the need for an additional player and provides the great playback experience and control that you've come to rely on with QuickTime Player. Version 2.3.0.7 Beta allows for local files to import in the background by default while audio encoding and decoding is now handled by CoreAudio.

Components support multi-threaded applications while opening WMV files from the Finder now finds the latest version of QuickTime Player. The company has added 64-bit support to the WebKit plugin and the Flip4Mac WMV Preference Pane, to name some of the latest changes with the software.

Flip4Mac WMV Player is available under the form of a trial version right here on our web site. In trial mode you can export ½ the duration of your source file up to 30 seconds, with a watermark being placed on any file that you import until you upgrade to the Pro version. Some feature limitations are also imposed. However, the most important ones were left in place. As such, you can: play back (Player version), import (Player Pro version), export with built-in encoding profiles (Studio version), export with custom 1-pass, SD profiles (Studio Pro version), export with custom 2-pass, HD profiles (Studio Pro HD version).

The software requires Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) or later, QuickTime v 7.0 or later (for Free Player), and QuickTime Pro v7.0 or later (for exporting movies in Player Pro, Studio, Studio Pro and Studio Pro HD).
