Dock Spaces, one of Softpedia’s favorite Mac apps, has received a maintenance update, bringing the software version to 3.15. Dock Spaces allows users to have up to ten different docks and swap among them from the menu-bar. Developed by
Patrick Chamelo of NS Coding, a small software development group headquartered in both England and (occasionally) in Greece, Dock Spaces is available completely free of charge.
The latest version of the software (released earlier this week) is Dock Spaces 3.15. With this new update, developer Patrick Chamelo hopes to have fixed a bug that had been plaguing users for quite a while, saying “Hopefully the annoying bug of the Trash icon update is gone.” No other changes seem to have been included in this release, so it’s safe to say that the update is recommended for everyone employing the software.
As noted in
our extensive review of Dock Spaces, there are numerous applications that allow Mac users to modify the looks and the works of their Dock. However, none offers the many advantages of Dock Spaces, from a functionality point of view. By providing options to select whether or not icons bounce in one Dock, or by setting another to automatically hide itself while the rest are in Tiger-style 2D, with different alignment and positioning, Dock Spaces allows users to tailor their Mac's application launcher to their exact needs. Dock Spaces also sports “hotkeys,” allowing users to swap through their docks and spaces using whatever combination of keys they find most suitable.
Key features include the ability to have up to ten different docks, task-specific / context-focused docks, setting a name for a specific dock, Spaces integration, Growl support, Software update using the Sparkle framework and a $0 price. Unfortunately for Tiger users, Dock Spaces is only available for Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. The app is a Universal Binary, compatible with both PowerPC and Intel machines.
