Although Microsoft has considerable accelerated the pace at which it delivers new development milestones for Internet Explorer 9 (once every 8 weeks), it simply can’t keep up with the release process of testing Builds from Opera or Google. At the end of the past week, the Mountain View-based search giant released yet another Dev Build of Chrome 6.0. And at the start of this week, Opera Software produced a new development snapshot of Opera 10.70. Both releases are now available for download for early adopters.

According to a member of the Opera Desktop team, Opera 10.70 Build 3483 brings to the table a variety of bug fixes compared to the previous development snapshot. Opera Software focused on updating Presto, the rendering engine behind the next major upgrade of Opera.

“We have another Presto (Core) update for you. This update should improve performance in some cases, and it fixes a few crashes and freezes, some memory issues, and we have also removed the -o- prefix for CSS3 text-overflow. Widgets should be working again as well. There are some more quite important fixes in there, so take a look at the changelog for more details. Let us know about any regression you may find compared to the previous 10.70 snapshot,” revealed the Opera Desktop team member.

Google Chrome 6.0 continues to crawl forward toward the first Beta milestone. Last week, the next version of Google’s open source browser inched forward to version 6.0.472.25, up from Build 6.0.472.22, released just a few days earlier. As was the case with previous releases, Chrome 6.0 Build 6.0.472.25 is still served through the Dev channel, and focused on delivering updates to the graphical user interface in concert with resolving bugs that affect stability.

At the same time, Jason Kersey, from the Google Chrome team, indicated that an issue was resolved which prevented the launching of “Chrome after installing may not work correctly if other browsers are running and set as default.” This problem was only reported by testers running Chrome 6.0 on Windows.
