14 DAY TRIAL // Autodesk, Inc. has announced the new TinkerBox game designed to spark interest in physics and mechanical engineering. A free download for all iDevice owners, the TinkerBox game builds on the success of the iPad-exclusive (TinkerBox HD) version released earlier this year.
“Following the success of the Autodesk TinkerBox App for iPad, players can now experience the joy and excitement of invention on a variety of iOS devices,” Autodesk developers said today.
Posing stimulating mechanical puzzles and challenging physics problems, Autodesk TinkerBox has players devising imaginative solutions, inserting gadgets, assembling components, customizing switches, and ultimately testing their inventions.
According to the makers, TinkerBox inspires players to increasingly complex innovations as they complete one challenge after another.
“TinkerBox exposes players to math and engineering principles in an engaging and light-hearted way,” said Samir Hanna, vice president, Consumer Products, Autodesk.
“Extending the app to iPhone and iPod touch was a natural step in our quest to make science and engineering more fun, accessible and appealing to young people and adults alike,” Hanna added.
New adopters will benefit from new additions, like panning and zooming in the popular ‘invent’ mode, which now enables players to get a closer view while designing their contraptions.
Three new machine switches are also included in the new version:
· the reverse switch - can be connected to a motor or conveyor belt to reverse the machine flow; · the toggle button - powers elements on and off; · the momentary button - provides brief power surges.
All this new stuff is present in all versions of the application, including the iPad build.
Autodesk also provides free access to its 3D design, engineering and entertainment software in an effort to educate the next generation of designers and engineers.
The Autodesk TinkerBox app is a free download from the iTunes App Store.
