It should come as a surprise to no one, but portable computers have really become the main catalyst of the personal computer market, as more and more solutions are being developed for this segment. These systems can now provide the performance that could rival some of the high-end desktops available on the market, due to the more efficient CPU and GPU solutions that are now available. On that note, the Santa Clara, California-based NVIDIA has recently released a new set of GeForce drivers, part of the outfit's Verde Notebook Driver Program, specifically designed to deliver support to users of notebooks with a GeForce GPU inside.

The new GeForce 197.16 release is WHQL-certified and is available for download for users of Windows XP, Vista and 7 operating systems. According to the release highlights of the new drivers, consumers will be able to take advantage of the performance increments that have been made available with the new release, as well as the added support for the company's 3D Vision technology for notebooks. This solution allows GeForce-enabled notebooks to provide consumers with an enhanced visual experience, thanks to built-in support for 3D graphics. The update in the new drivers enables notebooks to support 3D Vision on external displays.

Depending on the GPU and the overall system configuration, users should see the following performance enhancements, in gaming applications, according to NVIDIA:

Up to 13% performance increase in Crysis: Warhead with a single GPU Up to 30% performance increase in Crysis: Warhead with SLI technology Up to 13% performance increase in H.A.W.X with single GPU Up to 15% performance increase in H.A.W.X with SLI technology Up to 30% performance increase in Left 4 Dead with single GPU Up to 28% performance increase in Left 4 Dead with SLI technology

As with all of the previous releases, the new set of drivers includes a series of bug fixes that should ultimately provide consumers with a more stable and high-quality graphics experience.
