Santa Clara, California-based NVIDIA has just announced a new series of drivers, specifically designed to add support for users of portable computer systems equipped with one of the company's latest graphics processing units. In addition, the new pack will provide users with a new PhysX System Software driver, which will enable PhysX hardware acceleration on notebooks powered by NVIDIA's GeForce 8M and 9M GPUs, featuring a minimum of 256MB of dedicated graphics memory.

The new driver pack released for NVIDIA-powered notebook users adds support for the following NVIDIA products: NVIDIA GeForce Go 7 Series GPUs, NVIDIA Hybrid SLI notebooks and a couple of other GeForce GPUs, including the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M, GeForce 9100M, GeForce 7150M, GeForce 7000M and the more recent GeForce GT 130M, GeForce G 110M, and GeForce G 105M GPUs. In addition, the new driver pack will also provide users with a fix to an issue related to the company's single GPU GeForce 8800M GTX graphics chip.

Before downloading the new drivers, NVIDIA recommends that users first check up with the OEM of their notebook, as it might provide certified drivers for that specific product. Also, the company warns that this driver release doesn't support certain Dell notebooks, Fujitsu notebooks (including the Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Xi 3650), Lenovo ThinkPad notebooks, Sony Vaio notebooks or BenQ Joybook S42 notebooks.

The new GeForce Release 179 for notebooks has also added support for some of NVIDIA's Quadro NVS notebook GPUs, including the Quadro NVS 510M, Quadro NVS 300M, Quadro NVS 160M, Quadro NVS 150M, Quadro NVS 135M, Quadro NVS 130M. As with the GeForce 8M and 9M GPUs, the support for Quadro NVS notebook GPUs is limited to a number of systems, while other ones aren't supported, including Dell's Latitude models, HP Compaq notebooks and Lenovo ThinkPad notebooks.
