Microsoft has made available for download the first Reliability Update for .NET Framework 4, designed to resolve a range of problems either reported through user feedback or identified by the company. In fact, .NET Framework 4 Reliability Update 1 is set up to fix no less than 14 issues, which the software giant has detailed in KB2533523.

Customers running .NET Framework 4 will get Reliability Update 1 served to them through Windows Update, but they can also grab it and install it manually from the Microsoft Download Center.

As the official label of the refresh implies, the download delivers fixes for issues impacting the stability, reliability, and performance of .NET Framework 4.

According to Microsoft, .NET Framework 4 Reliability Update 1 also comes to replace a range of hotfixes that were delivered to resolve specific problems with the technology. At the same time, .NET Framework 4 Reliability Update 1 contains fresh enhancements which have not been made available previously to customers.

Microsoft provided a full list of issues that .NET Framework 4 Reliability Update 1 is designed to resolve, revealing that the refresh will help customers deal with a variety of glitches, including severe problems such as applications malfunctioning or crashing.

As I’ve said, there are no less than 14 glitches that .NET Framework 4 Reliability Update 1 deals with, in a variety of scenarios, and involving such technologies as the .NET Framework Data Provider for SQL Server (SqlClient), ASP.NET 4.0, Internet Information Services (IIS), Visual Studio 2010, etc.

The software giant even put a Bing-related issue on the list:

“The Bing crawler has updated its user agent from Msnbot to Bingbot in October 2010. After you install this update, ASP.NET bowser capabilities for both Bingbot and Msnbot work correctly.”
