As fans gear up for the upcoming release of Thunderbird 3.1, Mozilla has made available an updated version of the current line, Thunderbird 3.0.5. It’s a bug-fixing release with no new features, though users should see an improvement in message-indexing speed. More than 60 bugs have been fixed in Thunderbird 3.0.5.

“Thunderbird 3.0.5 is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux for free download. We recommend that users keep up to date with the latest stability and security updates of Thunderbird, and encourage all our users to upgrade to the very latest version, Thunderbird 3.0.5,” the release announcement read.

Major updates in Mozilla Thunderbird 3.0.5:

· This release improves the performance of indexing messages and accessing profiles stored on a network; · This release also improves the unread email notification on Mac OS X; · Several fixes to the user interface.

Thunderbird 3.0.5 comes with a list of bugs fixed longer than usual. Over 60 bugs in total have been resolved since the previous minor update, Thunderbird 3.0.4, though only six were labeled as critical. The release comes almost three months after the previous update. Users should be receiving an update notification, but they can already download the latest version and install it themselves.

Mozilla Thunderbird 3 had been in development for a couple of years and went through an extended testing period. It was finally released late last year and marked a significant improvement over Thunderbird 2.0, bringing several important new features like tabs and improved search.

Mozilla is already working on its successor, Thunderbird 3.1, which is now very close to launch. The second release candidate version was made available last week and a final version should be coming very soon.
