Mozilla has released new versions of its popular web browser used by a billion people across the world on Mac, Windows and Linux. The software is free to download and install on any supported machine. Readers can grab the latest version of Firefox right here on Softpedia.

Mozilla has revealed that Firefox 3.5.2 Beta, released on July 31st, 2009, fixes several security and stability issues. Additionally, images with ICC profiles now render properly on all monitors, the company says. A lengthier list of changes is also available on the Mozilla.org website. As for Firefox 3.0.13 Beta, released on August 1, 2009, it fixes several issues found in Firefox 3.0.12 such as security and stability problems. A complete list of bugs fixed is also offered.

On the Mac side, Mozilla's powerful web browser requires at least Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, an Intel x86 or PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor, 128 MB RAM (recommended: 256 MB RAM or greater) and some 200 MB of hard drive space.

One known issue still exists in the browser, the release notes show, at least on the Mac front. Apparently, if you use IPv6 from a network location that doesn't support IPv6 routing, your DNS lookups may be very slow. As such, you should set network.dns.disableIPv6 to true as a workaround.

“While we consider this release build to be stable, your continued feedback will help ensure we don’t miss any new issues,” Mozilla says. “Using this release candidate and reporting any issues you find allows us to release a high quality Firefox. Please report any problems or issues at our Community feedback web site or through the Firefox Prerelease Feedback newsgroup.”

Starting with Firefox version 3.1 Beta 2, Mozilla's popular web browser is based on the Gecko 1.9.1 rendering platform, which has been under development at Mozilla for over a year now. At the time of the release, Mozilla described Gecko 1.9.1 as “an incremental release on the previous version with significant changes to improve web compatibility, performance, and ease of use.”

All existing versions of the Firefox web browser can be downloaded using the link below.

An even better option would be to push the vendor to fix the bug, perhaps "failing gracefully back to IPv4" when IPv6 connectivity is unavailable.

The problem with auto-disabling IPv6 is that you will want/need to re-enable it in the future ... and by then, you will have forgotten you disabled it :(.

Since I downloaded the Firefox upgrade to 3.5.2, Firefox has been slow, and not performing as well as it had before this upgrade.

Help, please. I would like to download the previous version which worked much better.

Hi Maryl,

Below I have provided a download link for Firefox 3.5.1 (the latest stable version of the browser available before Firefox 3.5.2). Just copy and paste this link into a web browser, then click save to download the DMG file onto your computer.

ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/3.5.1/mac/en-US/Firefox 3.5.1.dmg

Also, if you would like an older version of the browser, go here:

ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/

You will find all versions of Firefox for Mac (old and new).

Best of luck!
