Fresh out of development, Firefox version 3.6.8 is now available for all supported platforms, the browser’s makers have announced. The new release fixes a stability issue affecting some pages containing plugins, and delivers a fix for a critical vulnerability, according to the mozilla.org web site.

“Firefox 3.6.8 fixes the following issues found in previous versions of Firefox 3.6,” reads the “what’s new” over at Mozilla.com. “Fixed a single stability issue affecting some pages containing plugins,” Mozilla adds, outlining the very problem affecting older builds of the browser. “Please see the complete list of changes in this version. You may also be interested in the Firefox 3.6.7 release notes for a list of changes in the previous version,” the software maker notes, and provides the appropriate links for those interested in learning more about recent developments.

Although Mozilla doesn’t specifically mention that Firefox 3.6.8 also fixes a serious security issue, the mozilla.org section dedicated to “Security Advisories for Firefox 3.6” certainly indicates that this is the case. There, version 3.6.8 is mentioned as being responsible for addressing the following vulnerability, which has been labeled by Mozilla as critical: MFSA 2010-48 Dangling pointer crash regression from plugin parameter array fix.”

As reported by Softpedia earlier this month, Firefox 4 Beta is also now available for Mac, Windows, and Linux. Although the biggest improvements are yet to arrive for users of Apple’s computers, the new release includes an updated Windows interface “that's sleeker and easier to use,” a new Add-ons manager, WebM video support (HD quality video), enhanced HTML 5, Privacy, and CSS support are present in all versions of the beta (including Mac OS X). Coming in later releases are speed improvements, and the ability to sync all your passwords, bookmarks, and settings across devices, Mozilla said.
