Mojang has officially released the latest version of Minecraft for Macs, bringing a considerable amount of changes to the immensely popular online crafting game written in Java.

The changelog for Minecraft 1.5 is so big one doesn’t even know where to begin.

Under General, Mojang mentions some engine optimizations along with support for more realistic lighting. More particularly, “lighting interacts correctly with slabs and stairs,” according to the release notes.

Texture packs get a new format, and textures can be animated now, which is a pretty big deal for players who want to show off their personalities in-game.

Vanilla textures will now be used if texture files are missing, and Mojang has thrown in support for HD texture packs and fonts.

Under Gameplay, the developers mention some scoreboard system enhancements, inventory tweaks and updates, and lots of other cool stuff. Same goes for Blocks & Items – prepare to scroll like crazy through the documentation.

And 105 bugs have been fixed in total, says Mojang.
