Patch Tuesday has passed and even though Microsoft skipped some important updates for its software, the company still released a new version of its Malicious Software Removal Tool.

Even though it’s also delivered via the integrated Windows Update feature, the new Malicious Software Removal Tool 4.16 app is also available as a standalone update for those who wish to detect and remove malware with minimum effort.

This new version has been included in the first Patch Tuesday update cycle of 2013 and comes with detection and cleaning for new forms of malware, but specific details on these are yet to be provided.

Just like the previous versions, this new release works on Windows XP, Vista and 7, with both 32- and 64-bit builds supported.
