Microsoft has recently decided to enable Flash by default on Windows 8 and Windows RT and, even though some people said that Silverlight is no longer a priority for the Redmond-based technology giant, the company rolled out a new update for its very own plug-in.

Microsoft Silverlight 5.1.20125.0 is now available for download for all Windows users out there, as it supports a wide variety of Windows contraptions, including XP, Vista, and 7.

There are no release notes for the time being, but the new Silverlight version most likely brings performance improvements and bug fixes supposed to enhance the overall user experience.

In addition, it’s supposed to fix a vulnerability that would allow an attacker to take control of an unpatched system once the user loads a compromised website.

“The vulnerability could allow remote code execution if an attacker hosts a website that contains a specially crafted Silverlight application that could exploit this vulnerability and then convinces a user to view the website,” Microsoft explained.
