Microsoft has wrapped up the next generation of the free security solution it's offering users of Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP.
In this regard,
Microsoft Security Essentials 2.0 is now available for download from the Redmond company.
According to the information offered with the downloads, the Build number for this MSE release is 2.0.657.0. The most recent test development milestone of Microsoft Security Essentials 2.0 was offered in November –
Build 2.0.522.0.
The Microsoft Security Essentials 2.0 RTM downloads are being served through the Microsoft Security Essentials website which was previously offering version 1.0 of the antivirus.
While the software giant has yet to announce officially the release to manufacturing o Microsoft Security Essentials 2.0, or the general availability deadline, the bits are indeed up for grabs.
In fact, I just rebooted my computer after installing MSE 2.0 RTM, as you can see from the screenshot included with this article.
But although it hasn’t said anything yet related to the finalization of MSE 2.0 and its release, Microsoft is bound to share details soon enough.
Microsoft Security Essentials 2.0 debuted into Beta in mid-July 2010, with the bits delivered to early adopters for testing via Microsoft Connect.
Speculation from various sources indicated on several occasions that the RTM of MSE 2.0 was set by the end of 2010.
But Microsoft, which traditionally avoids commenting on rumors, failed to confirm the information, or to provide users with details about the GA deadline.
Microsoft Security Essentials 2.0 has evolved compared to its predecessor and it now includes such enhancements as Windows Firewall integration and a new protection engine.
