Microsoft has released new Office for Mac updates for customers using the company’s 2008 and 2011 productivity suites, patching a number of security issues in both iterations and updating Outlook for 2011 installations.

According to the Redmond-based Windows maker, Office for Mac 2011 version 14.2.5 “fixes extremely important issues and also helps improve security.”

Those fixes apply to Outlook where update 14.2.5 fixes half a dozen issues with Outlook.com accounts, PST imports, distribution lists, moving messages between folders using Gmail accounts, as well as copying and pasting.

The update also includes “a designated error to inform users when an expired password results in authentication failure.”

Office for Mac 2008 version 12.3.5 is a security-only release which “includes fixes for vulnerabilities that an attacker can use to overwrite the contents of your computer's memory with malicious code,” Microsoft says.
