An update released for version 2.0 of Microsoft Enterprise Desktop Virtualization enables two components, the MED-V Workspace Packager and the MED-V Host Agent to provide users with localized content in accordance to their language. The Microsoft Enterprise Desktop Virtualization (MED-V) 2.0 – Localization Software Update is available for download free of charge from Microsoft providing the HostAgent and WorkspacePackager patches.

Some Softpedia readers might remember that I wrote about the release of the Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack 2011 in the first half of March 2011, with MDOP 2011 including MED-V 2.0, in addition to Microsoft Application Virtualization (App-V) 4.6 Service Pack 1 (SP1).

According to the software giant, following the introduction of the update, the MED-V Workspace Packager will be available into no less than 11 different languages: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Korean, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Chinese Traditional, Chinese Simplified.

In this regard, customers running MED-V, will be able to leverage the Host Agent in as much as 24 different languages, including: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Korean, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Chinese Traditional, Chinese Simplified, Dutch, Swedish, Danish, Finnish, Portuguese, Norwegian, Polish, Turkish, Hungarian, Czech, Greek, Slovak, Slovenian.

“The language that will be shown to the user will match the language configured for Windows. For example a German version of Windows will show MED-V in German. If the configured language for Windows is not one of the supported languages then the user will be presented with the English UI,” Microsoft explained.

However, it’s also important to note, that although the update is indeed focused on the localization of MED-V, fact is that Microsoft also used the opportunity to deal with some issues impacting the solution.

“This update also resolves two reported issues relating to the configuration of the memory on the virtual machine and to the publishing of application shortcuts,” the company revealed.

MED-V customers that will deploy the localization refresh will find that version 2.0 of Microsoft Enterprise Desktop Virtualization will be able to auto-detect Windows language settings and adapt the Workspace Packager and Host Agent accordingly.
