The Spring version of Mandriva Linux 2010

Announced on Saturday night (January 9th), the first Alpha release of the upcoming Mandriva Linux 2010.1 Linux distribution, due for launch in early June this year, is now available on mirrors worldwide. This first Spring release includes only bleeding-edge packages, starting with Linux kernel 2.6.33 RC3 and continuing with KDE Software Compilation 4.4 Beta 2, Mozilla Firefox 3.6 Beta 5, OpenOffice.org 3.2 Beta 3, Amarok 2.2.2 Beta 1, or GNOME 2.29.4.

"Many improvements and new functionalities are planned for this new version: your desktop will be smart and connected! Smart desktop is still one of the focus of main version, you can have a look on the coming roadmap. But you will find also easy home encryption so that your personal data are secured even wherever you are. Also planned a big work on our tools to manage softwares installation and update to give more useful information and help user[s] in choosing the best of open source softwares." – was stated in the official release announcement.

As usual, this first development release is available only as an installable DVD, for both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures (see below for download link). The development cycle for Mandriva Linux 2010 Spring will continue with two more Alpha releases in February, two Beta releases in March and April, a Release Candidate version in May and it will conclude with the final release in June, 2010.
