14 DAY TRIAL // As expected, Apple has released its new Mail Update for Mavericks customers fixing several bugs, including issues with Gmail accounts.
A tech note on Apple’s Downloads site reveals that “This update improves stability and compatibility with Gmail, and includes fixes for users with custom Gmail settings.”
An in-depth knowledge base article buried deeper on Apple’s Support section talks about the update at length, outlining the exact problems that it will patch.
Customers experiencing issues while deleting, moving, and archiving messages on a Gmail account with custom settings will have all their problems resolved, Apple says. An issue that may cause unread counts to be inaccurate is also fixed.
The update further packs “additional fixes that improve the compatibility and stability of Mail,” according to the Cupertino giant.
Apple outlines an entire procedure for installing the Mail update, and advises customers to back up their system before installation using Time Machine or their preferred backup software.
“You may experience unexpected results if you have third-party system software modifications installed, or if you've modified the operating system through other means,” Apple warns.
Users can either download the new Mail build through the Mac App Store’s Software Update panel, or manually. Download Mail Update for Mavericks right now, if you want to use the latter method.
Downloading and installing the update manually “is a useful option when you need to update multiple computers, but only want to download the update once,” Apple notes.
“Other software updates available for your computer may appear, which you should install. Note that an update's size may vary from computer to computer when installed using Software Update. Also, some updates must be installed prior to others. Use Software Update until it reports ‘No Updates Available,’” Apple concludes.
