Mac OS X Lion Developer Preview 2 carrying build number 11A419 is now available for download through the Mac App Store, though not as a GM (Golden Master) release, as recent reports had us believe.

Countering reports saying that a GM1 release of Lion was due out soon, followed by a potential new GM seed prior to the public release this summer, yesterday Apple notified developers that a new version of Mac OS X 10.7 was immediately available to them.

Accompanying the seed is Xcode 4.1 Developer Preview 2, an updated version of Apple’s developer toolset targeting Mac and iOS programming.

According to those with access to the new builds, the non-GM Lion Client and Server candidates contain about a dozen known issues each.

Developers are being told that Thunderbolt devices are not yet fully supported, according to a report by AppleInsider, while users with NTFS volumes may experience a panic or shut down during reboot.

An issue specific to 2011 MacBook Pro laptops, videos purchased from the iTunes Store will not play, period.

The new Recovery HD feature in Mac OS X 10.7 Lion will not be created on unsupported partition schemes, another known issue goes.

Users trying to create a book, card or calendar from an event or album in iPhoto 9 will see the app crash before them. The same thing will happen when clicking a photo's info button, according to the same report.

On the Server side, known issues include:

- issues with installation of OS X Lion when using local or caching Software Update; - when using Wiki Server and Profile Manager, new sharepoints don't inherit group permissions and support for just Safari; - support for Podcast Producer Server, NetBoot/NetRestore from install source, and booting into a NetRestore is not yet included in Lion Server

Mac OS X 10.7 Lion is scheduled to debut this summer at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference 2011.
