Have you ever wondered about the new features packed into Lync 2010, Microsoft’s latest unified communications offering? Well, the software giant has just made available for download a new chapter of the Microsoft Lync Server 2010 Resource Kit book designed to answer questions related to the evolution from Communications Server 2007 R2, feature-wise.

Customers need only head over to the Microsoft Download Center to get Lync Server 2010 New Features Overview.

The Redmond company is living up to its promise of delivering additional chapters of the Microsoft Lync Server 2010 Resource Kit book as they become available.

“Microsoft Lync is a major release that delivers enhanced telephony features as well as greatly expands on the feature set across other modalities,” the Redmond company explained.

“Lync builds on the feature set in Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2. The major focus of Lync delivers the missing feature sets needed for the Enterprise Voice solution to satisfy Telephony RFPs (for example, E9-1-1, survivability, music on hold, call admission control, and so on).”

The features overview resource offers insight on Lync product-lineup, but also goes into detail with various aspects including Enterprise Voice, Conferencing, Application Sharing, IM and presence.

Also, the software giant has taken extra care to show customers just what Lync Server 2010 is capable of.

“Lync Server introduced new functionality in all the different workloads—IM and presence, conferencing, application sharing, and Enterprise Voice (telephony).

“Lync Server addresses missing features often requested in telephony RFIs, making Lync Server a viable replacement for IP-PBXs. This release significantly simplifies the planning, deployment, and administration of Lync Server,” the company added.

Customers interested in Microsoft UC offering, can also download another chapter of the Lync Server 2010 Resource Kit book, namely the Lync Server 2010 Technical Overview.
