As is the case with a range of its products and technologies, Microsoft is offering extensive documentation for the latest iteration of its unified communication offering.

IT professionals can head over to TechNet and access Lync Server 2010 documentation immediately, free of charge.

In fact, the Redmond company is also offering documentation for Lync Server 2010 NextHop and Lync Server Tools, in addition to the resources for Lync Server 2010.

Of course, the biggest caveat to TechNet is that IT pros need to be online in order to take advantage of the content provided by Microsoft.

But at the same time there’s an alternative. The software giant is also offering the Lync Server 2010 Documentation Help File through its Download Center.

Just as the TechNet materials, the Lync Server 2010 Documentation Help File is available for download free of charge.

“This download contains a compiled help file (chm) of all the available Lync Server 2010 IT professional documentation on the Technical Library,” the company said.

The documentation will help customers get insight into Lync Server 2010, by focusing on a variety of aspects.

IT pros get guidance through the new features added to the UC solution, as well as an overview to help them get started.

But at the same time they can access resources designed to help them with the planning of a Lync Server 2010 deployment, with virtualization, supportability, migration, operations, monitoring, security and troubleshooting.

“Microsoft Lync Server 2010 communications software offers instant messaging (IM), presence, conferencing, and telephony solutions that can support enterprise-level collaboration requirements,” the company said.

Through the Lync Server 2010 TechNet page, customers can grab various standalone documents, in addition to accessing them online.

The Lync Server 2010 documentation compiled help file (chm) offers the alternative of having all TechNet resources available for download as a single package.
