Linus Torvalds announced last evening, June 3rd, the first Release Candidate of the upcoming Linux 3.5 kernel.

Linux kernel 3.5 RC1 contains about 60% drivers, 20% arch updates, and 20% tools, filesystems, documentation, etc.

"Nothing hugely special springs to mind – there's some memory compaction issue that is still being discussed, but I don't think there's anything particularly scary or special that stands out over everything else in the -rc1."

"Depending on what your interest is, you might be excited about the CoDel packet scheduler, or about the GPU driver updates, or the new scsi targets. There is something in here for pretty much anybody," said Linus Torvalds in the email announcement.

Download Linux kernel 3.5 RC1 right now from Softpedia. Remember that this is a development release and it is intended for testing purposes only.
