Linus Torvalds announced this weekend, March 31st, that the first Release Candidate of the upcoming Linux 3.4 kernel is available for download.

Linux kernel 3.4 RC1 brings many improvements among open-source graphics DRM drivers, improvements for the Btrfs filesystem, better performance for Intel Sandy Bridge chips, as well as improved power management.

"One thing worth pointing out is that the header file cleanups were nice, but let's never do them again. Or at least not for a release or two."

"They caused a lot of merge conflicts and small annoyances, and while I'm ok with resolving merges, it was annoying enough that I don't want to go through that immediately again. I know they also annoyed some submaintainers that were complaining to me about the pain." - was stated in the email announcement. Download Linux Kernel 3.4 RC1 right now from Softpedia. Remember that this is a development release and it is intended for testing purposes only.
