Linus Torvalds has just announced a few minutes ago, October 19, that the sixth Release Candidate of the upcoming Linux kernel 3.12 is now available for download and testing.

Linux kernel 3.12 RC6 is a very small release that only contains updated drivers, CIFS updates, USB improvements, ACPI fixes, infiniband changes, as well as documentation updates.

"I'm at PDX, about to fly out to the kernel summit, and it has almost become a tradition to do an rc release using the airport wifi. So here it is.."

"The patch is still busily being pushed out, but the git trees are up-to-date, and the tar-file should already be out. Nothing major happened last week, and the upcoming week is likely to be quiet too, since a lot of core maintainers will be in Edinburgh for the KS," said Linus Torvalds in the official release announcement.

Download Linux kernel 3.12 RC6 right now from Softpedia. Remember that this is a development version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.
